A Rio Grande City man identified as Daniel Eli Garcia was arrested early Sunday after ramming his pickup into the home where his ex-wife is living.
Deputies were dispatched to the home around 5:30am. The statements provided by the victim’s state that the man had expressed that he was suicidal and had told his ex-wife if she didn’t see him he would end his life. He arrived at the location and attempted to enter the property. Garcia attempted to break through a window and banged at the front door. When he failed to enter the property, he drove his grey 2014 GMC Sierra at a high speed into the front porch. In the process Garcia crashed into a Mitsubishi Outlander and crashed into the home. He immediately forced his way into the home breaking the door and hurting a person in the home. Once inside family members witnesses saw him rummaging through the kitchen in search of a knife. Fearing for their lives the family including two minors locked themselves in a bedroom while they waited for law enforcement.
Garcia was arrested on 5 charges of aggravated assault of a family member, criminal mischief with a value between $1,500 and $20,000, criminal mischief between $50 and $500 and burglary of habitation. He was booked into the Starr County Jail where he was monitored. Daniel Eli Garcia did not have a history of violence.
